About us

Our Story

The Eau Claire Male Chorus was organized in 1946 as an incorporated non-profit 501c3 organization.

The chorus is the longest standing performing arts group in the Eau Claire area.

Ed Hagen, the first director, auditioned prospective members, setting the cap at 75 singers. The chorus continued to grow over the years under the capable direction of Caldwell Johnson, Gordon Barry, Clark Angel, Russ Morgan, Milt Schimke, Don Gray, Paul Nixdorf, George Utphall, Richard Moses & our current director, David Fehr.

The Eau Claire Male Chorus of the 1940’s was instrumental in helping to develop the Upper Midwest District (UMD) of the Associated Male Choruses of America (AMC of A) with Berger Gabrielson of Eau Claire being the first district president.

The Upper Midwest District is the largest district in the Associated Male Choruses of America with 11 choruses and approximately 350 members.

The ECMC is governed by a board of directors consisting of officers elected annually and board members elected for three year terms from the membership at large. Membership to the chorus is open to any male age 18 and over. No audition is required for membership… just the love of music!

Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings (September - April) at Lake Street United Methodist Church, 337 Lake Street, Eau Claire from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. The repertoire of the chorus includes a wide range of musical genres from classical to pop, country western and show tunes. We sing for fun and strive to serve as musical ambassadors for our community in the process. The chorus is consistently cited as one of the best among it’s peers.

If you like to sing, enjoy good fellowship and making new friends, join us… We think you’ll be glad you did!
